A roemer is a wine glass. It has a taller, more slender stem than a Berkemeyer, and a convex bowl. Large examples were passed from person to person when a toast was drunk. The Latin inscription on this glass is derived from the Roman poet Terence and roughly translates as: ‘This is how I treat my friends’. In other words: I share a glass with those I consider to be friends.
