Goblet, anonymous, c. 1575 - c. 1650
This glass is exceptionally thinly blown and very transparent. It does not come from Venice, but is known to have been made in the Netherlands. The form of the hollow stem, a baluster with lion heads, was extremely popular north of the Alps. Several different variants of this type of glass are reproduced in a remarkable surviving copy of a 16th-century Flemish sale catalogue.
