This jug was used to pour wine. It is made of stoneware, a kind of clay pottery that is fired at an extremely high temperature. The result is a hard, non-porous material excellently suited for containing liquids. The joint between the neck and the spout is shaped like a human arm, with a hand resting on the spout.
