Everyone is allowed to shine. Even back in the day (if you could afford it). With no fewer than 4,000 rhinestones, the green evening coat must have made its wearer glitter with every move in the candlelight. The evening dress with white and pale blue beads had the same dazzling effect a century and a half later.
