During the course of his career, Van der Laan gathered a devoted group of designers and craftsmen around himself. The atelier of Noyons senior and junior in Utrecht was the regular producer of the silver pieces designed by Van der Laan. The Noyons, however, also made their own designs, such as this oil receptacle, which was used by a priest in a hospital to administer Extreme Unction (the anointment of the sick).
