Necklace with a Jade Pendant, a Lotus Ring, and a Floral Broche, Johannes Steltman, 1936
The goldsmith Johannes Steltman opened a shop selling a select assortment of jewellery in The Hague in 1917. He travelled regularly to Paris, the jewel capital, for inspiration and to purchase gemstones, including the jade pendant incorporated in this necklace. Can you spot the bat? The use of matte black enamel and the lotus flower motif, such as in the ring, is characteristic of Steltman jewels.
