Dress with a Wide Skirt and Matching Blouse, anonymous, c. 1935 - c. 1940

horsehair, l × w More details

Styles from the 19th century were often reprised in the second half of the 1930s. For instance, some evening dresses featured a wide skirt worn over a wide, stiff petticoat. This recalls the crinoline, a hoop skirt, which had been fashionable around 1850. The dress has a sleeveless bodice over which a matching blouse could be worn.
