Wedding Gown, Madame Heymans Besselink, 1902

duchesse lace, More details

Trains and lace were already standard parts of a wedding gown in the early 20th century. For her wedding in June 1903 Elisabeth Fok Fraterman had her dress lavishly decorated with fine Brussels needlepoint lace. The tailored bodice and the sleeves, as well as the skirt and train, all have bands of lace. This dress was more extravagant than the French examples: Elisabeth clearly liked making a grand gesture.
