Wine Glass with Views of the Schravenhagen and Alida Plantations, anonymous, c. 1752 - c. 1775
When this glass was engraved, the Surinam plantations of Schravenhagen and Alida were owned by Maria Lemmers-Wossink. She lived in a grand house in Paramaribo, a sign that the plantations were very profitable. The engraving shows a warehouse and sugar cane being harvested by people in slavery.
