This hat was worn by Mrs H.M.A.F. Six van Hillegom-Bosch Reitz, who bought it from A. Jacot around 1902. It was known in the family as the ‘rose hat’. Jacot was one of Amsterdam’s leading milliners (modistes) around 1900.

Description

Hoed van iriserend karmijnrood en groen raffia, donkerrood fluweel versierd en grote rose, katoenen rozen. Model met hoge toque, platte bodem en links een hoger opstaande kant. De voering is van zwarte tule. De hoed bestaat uit genaaide repen van dwars geplaatste franjeraffia, in de rondte op zwart gaas genaaid. Rondom op de rand een fluwelen lint in een strik waarop tien grote zijden rozen.
