This figurine, inspired by Chinese soapstone figures, was a very popular product of the Meissen porcelain factory. They were known as ‘pagodas’, after the Buddhist temples with which they were associated. Margarethe and Franz Oppenheimer originally had more than thirty of these Budai figures in their collection.
