Toilet Box on Stand, Meissener Porzellan Manufaktur, c. 1730

painting technique, h 13.5cm More details

The delicate shape of this toilet box on a stand is inspired by lacquerware boxes from Japan. The decorations too are copies of scenes often depicted in Japanese lacquerware and porcelain. In 1927, when their collection was catalogued, Margarethe and Franz Oppenheimer owned the box but not the stand. A few years later, they succeeded in bringing together the two pieces.
