Description
Fragment van een wandtapijt met Hercules: de slangenwurging. In een landschap, met hoge bloeiende planten op groen fond is een inkijk in een blauwe kamer, waar op de tegelvloer een spijltjesbed staat met kind, volgens het opschrift, HERCULES. Boven Hercules een slang in de vorm van een blauwgroene draak, op de grond naast het bed de tweede dito, beiden rochelend onder de wurgende kracht van de handen van Hercules. Boven een rastervenster een gewelfaanzet, op de achtermuur een tonde voor de helft zichtbaar. Het dak heeft een dakvenster. Rechts en groter afgebeeld dan het huis, staat een vrouw in opgeschorte tabbaard van rood fluweel, met een onderkeurs van rood brocaat, waarin geweven ALCMNENA. Zij draagt een kind op de arm, wellicht de aardse tweelingbroederIphicles. Op het tweede plan achter het huis, en slechts voor het bovendeel zichtbaar, een jongen met inschrift HERCULES; daarachter twee mannen met in hun midden een vrouw, die de handen ineengeslagen houdt. Op de achtergrond groene weide met schapen, heuvels met boompjes en een aantal huizen, binnen een gracht en een gekanteelde muur.
