Vase with the story of Diana and Actaeon, Pierre Raymond (attributed to), c. 1550

gild, h 24.6cm × w 14.4cm × d 11.8cm × d 11.0cm More details

Working in white on a black ground, Pierre Raymond introduced subtle tonal nuances in his monochromatic depictions. The flesh tone of the figures is emphasized through the introduction of a bit of red. Unfolding around the vase is the story of the goddess Diana, who turned the hunter Actaeon into a stag for spying on her while she was bathing.
