The foot and stem of this cup resemble an island with a pollarded tree. Leaning against its trunk is Orpheus, the mythical bard who could charm animals with his lyre. His audience consists of all kinds of birds and a few imaginary creatures, including winged mermaids. The bowl is ornamented with scenes from Ovid’s Metamorphoses.
