Eleanora of Aragon, Giovanni Cristoforo Romano (attributed to), Sperandio di Bartolommeo Savelli (rejected attribution), c. 1473
marble (rock), h c.28.5cm × w c.23.5cm × d 2.8cm × w 4240gr More details
While Eleanora of Aragon may not be portrayed here as a ravishing beauty, she is certainly not ugly. In any case, she can hardly be recognized as the stocky Duchess of Ferrara with skin more brown than white, as she was described by a contemporary. The sculptor clearly idealized her. Her neck is elegantly long and the white marble automatically lends her the then desired pallor.
