Pair of vases, anonymous, c. 1720 - c. 1750
gild, h 37.8cm × w 14.2cm × d 11.5cm More details
Originally made in China, these gourd vases were fitted in Paris with fashionable gilt-bronze mounts, with pagoda-shaped lids. In this way the French craftsman adapted an exotic object to Western taste. With their gilding, the vases matched the other furnishings in a luxuriously appointed interior.
