These mirrors, painted in Canton (China), were specially made for export. They were later framed in the Netherlands in the then-current Rococo style. Thus were exotic mirrors adapted to suit Dutch interiors. Originally there would have been a metal arm at lower centre to hold two candles. The mirrors belonged to Jean Theodore Royer, a well-known collector of Chinese objects in The Hague.
