Necklace, Névillé, c. 1875 - c. 1885
The mid-19th century witnessed a revival of interest in jewels on the part of artists and designers. Névillé derived inspiration from historical and archaeological shapes and ornamentation. The scenes on the medallions and the technique in which they are executed recall the heyday of 16th-century Limoges, known for its highly refined depictions painted in enamel.
