A boy amidst flowers and foliage is a Buddhist motif that enjoyed popularity during the Song Dynasty (960-1279). After this teapot landed in Europe in the 17th century, it was fitted with the gilt-bronze chain and ornaments. In the process, the miniature figure atop the cover was made to mimic the little boy in the original decoration on the pot’s body.

Description

Theepot van rood steengoed met een bolvormig lichaam, gebogen tuit en vierkant oor eindigend in een krul. Met een verguld bronzen montuur met ketting, bekroond door een jongen en twee vogels. Op de buik een brede band met een jongen tussen bloemranken in reliëf. Op de schouder en boven de voet een band met ranken. De deksel met bloemranken. Op de tuit lotusranken en het oor met insecten. Yixing.
