Wedding kimono, anonymous, 1920 - 1940
Wedding kimonos are worn without belts, and are lined with silk at the bottom. The mythical hoo bird symbolises marital bliss and a long life; the colours of the feathers signify the five virtues: compassion, wisdom, fidelity, mildness, and modesty. The creature is hand-painted on the white silk. A pale pink effect is made by the lining’s red colour.
