The hare and the moon are a well-known motif on Japanese porcelain. It relates to the legend of a mythical hare living on the moon. The creature pounds rice in a mortar for mochi – sweet rice cakes with the same round shape as the lunar disk.

Geschulpte schotel van porselein, bedekt met een lichtblauw glazuur. Op het plat van de schotel in reliëf twee hazen in een landschap onder de maan tussen wolken. Gemerkt op de onderzijde. Qingbai-kleurig glazuur. Monochromen.
