Mirrors, anonymous, c. 1300 - c. 1600
In making these mirrors the disk and the handle were cast separately. The bronze disc was polished to a high shine and the handle adorned with decorative details, such as openwork motifs or gilded reliefs. Bronze mirrors could also have a ritual function, whereby the image of the divinity was reflected in the polished surface and thus establishing a connection between the spiritual and the mundane worlds.
