Many solid gold rings from ancient Java bear decorations bringing good fortune to the wearer. The lotus seed pod on the left ring was a powerful religious symbol of piety, while the ‘Sri’ design of the middle ring denotes the goddess of wealth. The right ring has an inscription in reverse, namely ‘kebal’, a Malay word relating to immunity or invulnerability.
