Stacking Basket, anonymous, c. 1795 - c. 1810
The shape of this decorative object is derived from a stacking box for meals, comprising three trays one atop the other and a handle. Crafted from intricate openwork ivory, all of the sides have different decorative patterns. The medallions frame paintings after the work of Angelica Kauffmann, a highly esteemed German painter of this period.
