The Romance of the Western Chamber is one of the most popular Chinese dramatic works. It is a story about the romance between the young scholar Zhangsheng and Cui Yingying, daughter of a high-ranking official. Here they say goodbye to each other. Yingying’s resourceful maidservant, Hongniang, plays a major role in the narrative and is even considered by many to be the heroine of the story. Through her mediation, the lovers eventually end up together.
