Fragment of a Mural, anonymous, 1396 - 1470
In order to paint on a wall, it was first covered with a thick layer of clay and straw. A thin layer of fine clay with plant fibres was applied over it, which was then entirely covered with a thin coating of limewash, creating a smooth surface on which an artist could paint. This fragment depicts three kneeling officers in a large hall, probably paying tribute to the emperor.
