This ivory container is carved in the form of a winged lion (singambara). The creature is hollow and crouches on a low, painted wooden base. An oblong hatch on the back of the lion can be removed to fill or empty the container. It may have held offerings, such as betel leaves and areca nuts, or possibly gold coins.
