Masker, Mitsunaga, 1600 - 1672
Two No Masks for the Role of Yase-otoko. These two masks are for the character of an emaciated man (Yase-otoko), a spirit tormented in the hereafter. The sunken eyes, hollow cheeks, and sharp cheekbones are stock features, and yet subtle differences in expression can be discerned reflecting the individual interpretation given by the maker of the mask.
