Description
Theeservies van porselein bestaande uit een theepot, twee melkkannetjes, twee theebusjes, twee pattipannen, een schotel en theekoppen en schotels. Een suikerpot en een spoelkom zijn niet aanwezig. Beschilderd op het glazuur in zwart en goud met een voorstelling van de Kruisiging met de twee Maria's. Europese voorstelling in encre de Chine.

Explanatory note
Episodes uit de Passiecyclus waren een populair onderwerp op Chine de commande. Vanaf de eerste jaren van de 18de eeuw bestonden er exemplaren in onderglazuur blauw met religieuze scènes. Rond 1740 is er een grote productie geweest van encre de Chine.
Uit vermeldingen in het VOC archief blijkt dat dit servies werd besteld in opdracht van de VOC en in 1779 naar Nederland werd verscheept in. In totaal werden tweeëntwintig serviezen geleverd. Wanneer we kijken naar de magere kwaliteit van het schilderwerk, zeker in vergelijking met vroegere exemplaren, is het niet verwonderlijk dat de directeuren van de VOC in het geheel niet tevreden waren met dit resultaat.
