A temple building nestles among the cedars on the hills around Kyoto. The trees are shaking violently in the squall. The Shirakawa River can be seen on the inside of the box. The inlaid mother-of-pearl characters are part of a poem: Shirakawa river / The weeds that choke its mouth / Have withered in winter / And above its slender stream / Plovers raise their mournful cry.
