Model of a stayed mast with topmast and flagpole, mounted on a base.
The round mast with square head is stayed with five shrouds to each side and double stays, and has crosstrees, trestletrees and a mast cap. The topmast is supported by the top-rope and a pawl on the foremost crosstree falling into a line of teeth in the foot of the topmast, the fid is missing. The topmast is stayed by three topmast shrouds and a backstay on either side. The hounds of the topmast have a brass mounting to which the shrouds are secured; a similar brass mounting is applied to the hounds of the flagpole for the topgallant backstays and stay. The top of the flagpole can be removed. The purpose of the brass mountings is that the spars can be lowered without removing the shrouds. There is a hole in the base for the topmast when lowered.
