View of the Colosseum in Rome, Frederic Flacheron (attributed to), 1852 - 1881
salted paper print, h 350mm × w 305mm More details
Foreign artists and photographers in Rome, including the British photographers James Anderson and Robert Macpherson, gathered at Caffè Grecco near the Spanish Steps. There was also a French community, to which Flachéron belonged. For this monumental photograph, which he took with a wet collodion glass plate negative, he used a huge camera and must have had a darkroom nearby.
