Katendrecht, Wally Elenbaas, 1959 - 1960
The graphic artist Elenbaas was also at home in photography. In the 1930s he worked as a socially engaged photographer and, moreover, took surrealistic photographs. He practiced photography, together with his wife Esther, to a ripe old age, but then more as a private pastime than as an artistic expression. This image of two young people before a misted up window creates an exciting interplay of light and dark, atmosphere and space.
